With just over 450 million copies of the latest Harry Potter story sold this past weekend, it’s safe to say that Harry Potter fans were ready to return to the Wizarding World.

This past Saturday, witches, wizards, and muggles all over the world came together to celebrate the release of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on July 31st. According to Rolling Stone magazine, this book “broke Barnes & Noble’s presale record” and became the top selling book on Amazon. How amazing is that?! Even though this book isn’t a novel or written by J.K. Rowling herself, that didn’t stop fans from rushing to bookstores.

Here at Milwaukee Children’s Choir, not only were we excited for the launch of the new book, but also for the fundraiser we had with Barnes & Noble. From July 30th until August 3rd, when customers presented a voucher at the bookstore, a portion of the proceeds from all purchases benefitted MCC. This book-launch fundraiser will benefit the choir in many ways in the coming year.

Choral Volunteers

Milwaukee Children’s Choir joined with Barnes & Noble Bayshore the eve of the book launch to celebrate. We welcomed Harry Potter fans in the Milwaukee area to a night of spell casting, potion making, and lots and lots of singing! At midnight, members from Voices of Eterna and Milwaukee Youth Chorale gave a special performance of one of the most popular Harry Potter songs, “Double Trouble” along with several other songs.

We had a great turnout for this event from Potterheads of all ages. Not only did we see children decked out in their favorite character’s costume, but adults too! Fans who have been with Harry from the start, lined up to purchase J.K. Rowling’s latest project to see what Harry Potter and his friends are up to now.
