INTRODUCTORY CHOIR

Introductory Choir builds upon basic music skills to create a fun and rewarding choral experience and performances for children ages 6-9 years. The curriculum teaches a love for singing while developing strong aural skills, singing techniques and performance etiquette. During the hour-long rehearsal singers learn music theory, and develop their musical knowledge on paper and through singing. The Introductory Choir performs in at least three annual concerts and sometimes have other opportunities to perform in the community throughout the year.

Rehearsals Monday, 5:15-6:15pm in Hartland and Tuesday, 6:00-7:00pm, Milwaukee Youth Arts Center

PREPARATORY CHOIR

Preparatory Choir is for singers ages 8-12. They rehearse once a week for 1.5 hours, focusing on vocal technique. Singers gain confidence in their own voices as they are challenged with two and three-part pieces. Preparatory choirs continue to learn music theory skills, and perform at annual concerts and recitals, as well as smaller concerts and touring regionally.

Rehearsals: Mondays, 6:30-8:00pm in Hartland and Tuesdays, 6:00-7:30 PM. Milwaukee Youth Arts Center

LAKE COUNTRY: This season, Milwaukee Children's Choir had the privilege of having St. Charles Catholic School as a rehearsal location in Hartland. Those choirs rehearsing in Lake Country are Introductory Choir (ages 6-9) and Preparatory Choir (ages 8-12).

 

LYRIC CHORALE, the new premiere children's chorus for Milwaukee Children's Choir

The new Lyric Chorale is the premiere children's chorus for advanced singers age 11-15 that rehearse once a week for 2-hours. The Lyric Chorale continues learning music theory while developing a unified ensemble sound through challenging music sung in many languages and styles. The Lyric Chorale performs regularly during the academic year and also with the Milwaukee Ballet for its annual performances of Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker in addition to special performances with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Wisconsin Philharmonic, Bel Canto Chorus and many others. Four workshops alternating Saturday and Sunday are held during the school year.They also alternate annual tours nationally and internationally.

MILWAUKEE YOUTH CHORALE, MILWAUKEE TREBLE CHORALE and MILWAUKEE BASS CHORALE

Milwaukee Youth Chorale is a mixed-voice choir for teen girls grades 9-12 and teen boys ages 13-18 changed and unchanged voices. From within the Youth Chorale is formed the Milwaukee Treble Chorale and Bass Chorale. Performances present music fromt the Milwaukee Youth Chorale (SATB), the Treble Chorale (SSAA) and the Bass Chorale (TTBB). Membership in one of the Treble or Bass Chorale automatically assumes membership in the Youth Chorale. The Treble Chorale provides challenging repertoire for the advanced singer and appropriate technique for the developing female voice. All singers in the Treble Chorale must hold at least one year membership in the Lyric Chorale. The Bass Chorale is for boys ages 13-18 changed and unchanged voices. The Bass Chorale addresses the needs of the changing young man's voice with appropriate literature and vocal exercises that aid the voice while in transition from a treble only voice to a fluctuating vocal range. The Treble Chorale and Bass Chorale perform SATB repertoire to perform as part of the Youth Chorale while polishing their own ensemble's literature. Music theory education is advanced with the opportunity to apply this knowledge in rehearsal. Members sing advanced repertoire in many languages, performing with professional orchestras and choirs in the Milwaukee area. The Milwaukee Youth Chorale performs in annual concerts, special performances, and tours annually alternating nationally and internationally.
