Lucas Abegglen is thrilled to join the Milwaukee Children’s Choir staff. Recently relocated from San Diego to head up the extensive choral program at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Hubertus, Lucas is looking to bring his diverse and valuable choral experience to the MCC. He has performed with various choirs in the greater Los Angeles area and has toured across the southwest states of America as baritone section leader for Azusa Pacific University’s University Choir and Orchestra group.
Lucas earned his B.M. in Composition at Azusa Pacific University, located just east of Los Angeles, where he studied with John Proulx and Phil Shackleton, DMA. He then went on to earn his M.A. in Music Composition from the University of Bristol, in southwest England, studying with John Pickard and Neal Farwell. Lucas is eager to use his composition and theory background to inform a holistic approach to developing the young choral musicians in the MCC.
As a successful young composer, Lucas has written various choral, chamber, and orchestral works in addition to scoring independent films and plays. While at Azusa Pacific University, Lucas was given the Outstanding Senior Award in Music Composition. He has also earned several commissions, most notably for the international Octandre Quartet, the Bristol Contemporary Music for All (CoMA) ensemble, and the Manchester-based Sticks and Strings duo of harp and mixed percussion. Lucas is currently working on a choral commission for the vocal ensemble at Colgan High School in Virginia and is excited to share his new music at its premier in November.
