In appointing Rachel Maki as the new Artistic Director, MCC has chosen a conductor with national experience and recognized for her love of choral music and enthusiasm for music education.
Ms. Maki, who has been with MCC for three years, is thrilled to lead the artistic vision for the 2020-2021 season. She will continue to conduct the Lyric Chorale, and is very excited to resume making music with our singers in the upcoming season.
Ms. Maki has educated children of all levels throughout Michigan, New Jersey, and Wisconsin in both school and after school choral organizations. As an advocate of music education, Rachel led a Wisconsin school to receive the 2014 GRAMMY Select Schools Enterprise Award. This award is given to high school music programs which retain their music programs despite continued budgetary limitations.
During her time in Milwaukee, she was a section leader for Bel Canto Chorus in 2019-2020 and currently serves as a music educator at St. John Vianney Catholic School in Brookfield, WI.
Ms. Maki holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Northern Michigan University, Marquette, Michigan and a Master of Music in Music Education from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey. While at Westminster Choir College, she studied conducting with Dr. James Jordan and voice with Robin Leigh Massie.
MCC is excited to begin our 27th season of ‘building noteworthy character’ for young singers across the greater Milwaukee area, and looks forward to a rewarding, creative, new future with Ms. Maki at the artistic helm.
